What is the e-bike rental scheme?
The e-bike rental scheme offers free e-bike rental for all NHS Fife staff. In collaboration with Greener Kirkcaldy, we aim to support staff commuting and make e-bikes more accessible for active travel.

Who can borrow a bike?
The scheme is open to all current NHS Fife employees in the Kirkcaldy area who have a registered NHS email and ID badge. If you meet these criteria, you can take advantage of this fantastic opportunity!
How to borrow a bike
Borrowing a bike is simple! Follow these steps:

What can I borrow?
We have X ebikes for hire by NHS Staff. These bikes are all Black Ridgeback Errands.
Does it cost me anything to borrow a bike?
The cost of hiring an e-bike is free. However, you will be expected to pay a £10 deposit, which will be refunded upon the safe return of the bike, or you can donate the £10 deposit to Greener Kirkcaldy.
What's included in my rental?
The e-bike itself, battery, charger, basket, lock, and helmet.
Can I extend my rental/change my return date?
Initially, you will not be able to extend your rental however if there is limited demand for e-bikes, there is an opportunity for extension. Opportunity for extension will also be dependent on if and how the bike is being used.
What if the bike gets damaged?
If the bike gets damaged, we ask you to fill in the incident report form: Report a Problem - Lang Toun Cycles
It's normal for some parts to stop working or make noise over time. General wear and tear include:
- Punctures
- Bad brakes
- Broken chains
- Ripped saddles
- Broken spokes
- Gear issues
We cover minor repairs and general wear and tear without any quibbles. We will prioritise these to get you back on the e-bike as soon as possible.
Significant accidental damage is covered by insurance and it may take more time to resolve. We will try to supply you with a substitute as soon as possible.
Damage due to deliberate abuse or negligence will result in the cancellation of your subscription, and you will be charged for the repair cost.
If something is wrong with the e-bike, how do I get it fixed?

Please let us know and bring the bike to the shop as soon as you can. We will prioritise your repair and get you cycling again as soon as possible.
To arrange a repair:
Arrange a convenient time to drop the bike off to us.
We aim to resolve the issue within 48 hours. If the e-bike can't be fixed within this time, we'll aim to replace it with a substitute until the original is replaced (subject to availability).
If you are unable to bring the bike to us, we can arrange collection in exceptional circumstances. This collection service may incur additional charges.
I've lost the e-bike keys. Will I be charged?
Yes, as your rental is free, we're unable to bear the cost of replacing lost items. Missing items like keys, locks, chargers, helmets, and the basket on the bike will incur a cost to replace.
Is there a limit to how many times I can book an e-bike?
No – you can book to rent an e-bike as many times as you like. If however, all our bikes are booked out, we would ask you not to re-book to let someone else hire one.
Do you offer delivery if I can't collect it?
We would ask that you collect the e-bike from Langtoun Cycle shop. If, however, you are unable to collect the bike, you will have the opportunity to collect it from Victoria Hospital on specified days. Please email Kathryn Hastie to arrange this: Kathryn.hastie@nhs.scot.
What documentation do I need to bring to collect the bike?
To collect the bike, you need to bring your current NHS Fife ID card and be able to provide your NHS Payroll number. Your payroll number can be found on a payslip as a 'Staff pay number.' Please also bring two forms of proof of address dated within the last 3 months. If you do not bring suitable documentation, the rental will
