Would you like to help us training the next generation of medical and nursing staff? Then why not volunteer to become a simulated patient.

Simulated patients help us in the training of student nursing and medical staff, as well as the ongoing developing of existing healthcare staff.

Simulated patients help healthcare students and professionals learn safely. Instead of real experiences, they practice with guided scenarios which help build knowledge, skills and expertise while ensuring patient safety. Working through potential scenarios in real-time also helps improve interaction with patients, supports better teamwork and helps in the practice of vital clinical skills.

As a simulated patient, you might answer questions like you have a health problem, pretend to get medical tests done, or even act as a family member in a healthcare scenario. In some instances you may also be asked to take part in student or postgraduate exams.

The time commitment of our simulated patients varies although is usually no more than a few hours per month. You won’t be committed to a specific number of hours and you can volunteer or as many or as few sessions as you wish.

Sessions most often take place within our Simulation Training Centre at Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline, although training also takes place at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy and Cameron Hospital in Windygates.
