A new space providing a peaceful retreat for hospice patients to enjoy the outdoors has opened at Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline.
The Queen Margaret Hospice Garden was funded with £25,000 support from the Fife Health Board Endowment Fund, enabling the development to happen. The Endowment Fund Trustees have now agreed to provide an additional £17,000 to enable hospice patients to enjoy the fully accessible garden when the weather is poor. The funds will be used to purchase two bespoke shelters which will be large enough to accommodate a bed.
The garden is cared for and maintained to a very high standard by The Queen Margaret Hospice Garden Group, who raised significant funds for the initial make over.
The Endowment Fund Chair, Tricia Marwick said:
“This is a great example of the Fife Health Board Endowment Fund working in partnership with the community. The Trustees are very pleased to be able to support staff and volunteers in providing patients with a beautiful, tranquil, outdoor space where families and friends can spend time together. I would also like to thank the Garden Group for all their hard work and dedication."
