Over Christmas, opening hours at local pharmacies and GP Practices will change.
NHS Scotland's ‘Be Health-Wise this Winter’ campaign is advising people across Fife to check their local opening times, just in case they fall ill over the festive holiday.
Dr Laura Ryan, Medical Director of NHS 24, said:
“A few simple steps mean that people can be prepared, just in case they do fall ill over the holidays. Checking opening times is a good idea, and because coughs and colds are so common at this time of year it’s sensible to have home remedies, just in case. This includes paracetamol and ibuprofen, (including child friendly versions if you have wee ones), as well as some indigestion remedies. If you rely on repeat prescriptions you should check you have enough and order only what you need.
"You can check the self-help guides at NHSInform.scot if you fall ill and of course, if you have persistent symptoms, you can call 111.”
The three key steps that Be Health-Wise this Winter is recommending everyone take in preparation for their health this winter are:
· Keep some home remedies available at home
· If you need to, order your repeat prescription in plenty of time
· Check your GP and local pharmacy opening hours over the festive holidays.
