In Scotland, we hope to raise awareness amongst health and care staff, patients and the public about the need to use antibiotics more wisely to stop antimicrobial resistance. Taking antibiotics is not always the answer and there are some illnesses that antibiotics can't help with. These are things like colds, flu, viruses and vomiting. World Antibiotic Awareness Week is a campaign held each year from 18-25 November to try to help professionals and public understand more about antibiotics and what they can help with such as bacterial infections like urinary tract infections.
