Rona Laing was first appointed to the Fife NHS Board as a non-executive member in May 2014 and chaired the Audit and Risk Committee for several years before taking over as chair the Finance Performance and Resources Committee.
Prior to joining the Board, Rona spent more than 30 years with Fife Council Social Work Service before retiring as Head of Older People Services in 2013.
Rona also served as the Health and Social Care Integration Manager, which involved supporting the Joint Shadow Board in developing and implementing the model of Service Integration for Fife, which led to the establishment of the Fife Health and Social Care Partnership.
Rona later went on to become Chair of the Fife Health and Social Partnership’s Integration Joint Board, being appointed to the role in October 2016.
Chair of the NHS Fife Board, Rt Hon Tricia Marwick, said of Rona Laing’s appointment:
“I am delighted to welcome Rona Laing as Fife Health Board’s new Vice-Chair.
“I have had the privilege of working closely with Rona over a number of years in her role as a non-executive Board member, and in that time she has demonstrated the great passion and expertise which she will undoubtedly bring to the role.
“Rona has worked in a number of fields within health and social care and the considerable knowledge she has garnered will prove invaluable in her new role as Vice-Chair of our Board.”
Rona will take over the role as Vice-Chair from Dr Les Bisset, who is to retire from the Board on 31 March 2021. Dr Bisset also joined the Board as a non-executive member in 2014 having practiced as a GP in Leven for 34 years. Dr Bisset also served for many years as Clinical Director for Kirkcaldy and Levenmouth Community Health Partnership before being appointed as Vice-Chair of Fife NHS Board in 2015.
On Dr Bisset’s retirement, Mrs Marwick added:
“It is with a very heavy heart that we see Dr Les Bisset retire from our Board.
“Les has made a remarkable contribution to healthcare services in Fife over more than 40 years, serving as a local GP in Leven, as clinical director within the Kirkcaldy and Levenmouth Community Health Partnership and latterly as a non-executive Board member and Vice-chair of the Fife Health Board.
“Les has served in each of these roles with great distinction. On behalf of the Board, I want to thank him for his efforts, and wish him a long and happy retirement.”
