COVID-19 booster vaccine and flu vaccine
This year it was announced that those aged 50 and over will be eligible for the annual flu vaccine. It is safe to receive both the COVID and vaccines at the same time. Due to the rise of the Omicron variant, only those in the highest risk categories will continue to routinely be offered a flu jab at the same time as their COVID booster.
These include:
- People aged 65 and over;
- Healthcare and social care workers;
- Those aged 16 and over with an underlying health condition; and
- Those aged 16 and over and an unpaid carer; or household contact of an immunosuppressed person.
People aged 50 and over who are not in any of the above categories may still be able to get the flu jab free of charge at a participating community pharmacy. Please check with your local pharmacy in advance to see if this is available in your area.
If you are pregnant, speak to your midwife who can give you the flu vaccine.
