Professor Leitch and Dr Wood began their visit by attending the early morning safety huddle, which brings staff representatives from all areas of the hospital together to ensure there are sufficient resources in place across the site to start the day.
The delegation later visited Fife’s National Treatment Centre for orthopaedics, which opened in March 2023 at a cost of £33m. The purpose-built facility provides orthopaedic care for patients across Fife and the Lothians.
Clinicians involved in Fife’s Know The Score campaign updated Professor Leitch and Dr Wood on their work to identify deteriorating patients as quickly as possible through the use of ensure of early warning scores. This enables clinicians to use key metrics from patients to intervene quickly when their condition begins to deteriorate.
Recruitment was also a key theme of the visit, with Professor Leitch and Dr Wood introduced to some of Fife’s new international recruits. NHS Fife has been ahead of the curve in its recruitment of experienced clinicians from across the world, and is becoming an increasingly important has been a key part of the Board’s recruitment strategy.
Professor Leitch and Dr Wood completed their visit by attending the launch of NHS Fife’s new ‘Learning for Life’ online prospectus. The new resource was created by NHS Fife’s Practice and Professional Development team and showcases the range of training and development opportunities available to healthcare staff working in Fife. Users can also book places at upcoming training sessions or complete online modules to aid their professional development.
