Child Flu Campaign

To help raise awareness about the nasal (nose) spray vaccine and how it's the easiest and safest way for children and young people to get protected against flu, Public Health Scotland is launching a brand-new campaign titled 'Help beat flu with a wee scoosh'.

Given as a nasal (nose) spray, the flu vaccine is quick, easy and painless. All it takes is a wee scoosh up the nose.

NHSScotland will soon send out appointment letters with details of your child's flu vaccine appointment.

Please look out for this arriving in the post.

The vaccine is given once a year, usually between September and December. Flu viruses are constantly changing, so a different vaccine has to be made every year to ensure the best protection against flu.

Who’s being offered the vaccine?

The flu vaccine is offered to all:

  • children aged 6 months to 2 years with an eligible health condition
  • children aged 2 to 5 years and not yet at school (children must be aged 2 years or above on 1 September 2024 to be eligible)
  • primary and secondary school children
