Make sure you're registered to have your say!
FIFERS are being urged to make sure they don’t risk losing their vote because they’ve not returned their annual canvass form.
Forms were sent to every household in July with reminders sent out in August to those who hadn’t responded. The next stage is to send canvassers to properties which have still not replied.
The aim of the form is to ensure that the electoral register is up to date and to identify any residents who need to register to vote individually. Although it isn’t a registration form, it’s still important that you complete a canvass form. The information you provide will enable us to send a separate individual registration form to all the people in your household who are eligible and need to register.
Mike Melville, depute electoral registration officer for Fife, said: “Anyone who wants to vote, including in any potential General Election that may be called, must be registered. This form helps us identify anyone eligible to vote who’s not on the electoral register. So, if you haven’t already, simply check the form and reply as soon as possible.
“It’s also important to include 14 and 15-year-olds on the form as 16-year-olds are able to vote in Local Government elections, such as the upcoming ones for Dunfermline Central and Rosyth, as well as Scottish Parliament elections. This is so they are on the register when they become old enough to vote.
“For those households who have replied, we’ve also been sending out invitations to individuals who aren’t currently registered to vote so that they can to do so. It’s important that you reply to the invitations to register, returning the Household Enquiry Form isn’t enough to get yourself on the register.
Mike continued: “To make sure as many people as possible can have their say in any upcoming elections, electoral registration canvassers will also be out and about across Fife in the next few weeks. If they visit you, I would encourage you to take the time and complete the form with them.”
Registering to vote is quick and easy. If you’re not currently registered, you can find out how to register at www.fifedirect.org.uk/electoralregister
