The SCBU Team

The team of staff in the unit who provide continual collaborative care for your baby are made up of: Neonatal nurses

The nurse in charge of the unit

  Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (ANNPs)/Registrars

Consultant (senior doctor in charge of your baby’s medical care)

Infant feeding specialist/supporter

Clinical educator and Health visitor liason/ outreach

And depending on your baby’s individual needs; other professionals may also help with their care: including physiotherapists, radiographers, pharmacists and dieticians.

There is a ward round each day when the medical staff reviews every baby and discusses the baby’s progress/condition. You are welcome during this ward round and encouraged to ask any questions you may have concerning your baby’s care, this may help you understand what is happening to your baby.

Many parents feel powerless and separated from their baby when he/she is admitted to special care, so we encourage them to take part in their baby’s care; such as washing them or changing their nappies, helping instil confidence in parents caring for their baby.
