ANTENATAL PHYSIOTHERAPY ADVICE CLASS, AFTER REFERRAL FROM YOUR MIDWIFE/CONSULTANT

 

 

 

Your appointment will be in a pregnancy advice class.  Please allow one week from referral date then telephone the physiotherapy department closest to your home address and you will be given a date to attend.  Details of the centre to contact are noted below. 

 

Please inform the Receptionist that you require a Pregnancy Advice Class appointment.

 The classes are designed to address pregnancy related issues such as:-

  • Postural and hormonal changes in pregnancy
  • Common causes of spinal, pelvic and rib aches and pains
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Cramp, ankle swelling and other circulatory phenomena
  • Continence problems and the pelvic floor
  • Demonstration of simple core stability exercises and introduction to the use of the gym ball
  • Advice, information and examples of exercises will be given
  • Information leaflets on the purchase and use of maternity belts
  • Information leaflets on the purchase and use of wrist splints
  • Advice leaflets supporting the information given in the session will be made available
