Palliative Specialist Care Counselling Service

Grief and loss are a part of life; however we acknowledge that some people may need additional support to cope with effects of illness, loss and bereavement.

The Palliative Specialist Care Counselling service is a free confidential service for patients and those close to them who would benefit from additional support.

Reasons for referral may include: an expressed need to talk to someone, isolation, emotional distress or feeling unable to cope; feelings of anxiety, depression or guilt; history of loss or trauma as well as concurrent life issues.

The service offers individual and family sessions as well as bereavement groups run in conjunction with the Maggies Centre for those who have been affected by cancer.

Working closely with the Palliative Care Team, the Counselling Service supports staff to deliver holistic care as people come to terms with life limiting illness and facing end of life.

Training on loss and bereavement is also offered.
