Specialty Training

Speciality Trainees are Core Trainees – CTs (CMTs are Core Medical trainees or ACCS – Acute Common Core Stem Trainees) in years 1 or 2 post foundation years and Specialist Trainees – STs who are in years 3 and upwards.  This is dependent on the duration of the training in that specialty. Sometimes the senior STs are regarding as Specialist Registrars (STRs) who have completed their training but need further years of experience before starting a Consultants post.  Speciality Programme Directors are regional – some in NHS Fife, others in NHS Lothian or NHS Borders.
