Important information
If another person has Power of Attorney or Welfare Guardianship please ensure this documentation is brought with you when you attend for surgery.
Discharge information
Following your discharge from hospital, your aftercare will be provided back in NHS Fife, either at your GP practice, community nurses or at a plastic surgery dressing clinic at the hospital closest to your home, (Queen Margaret Hospital or Victoria Hospital). The ward staff in the discharging hospital will contact NHS Fife to arrange a follow-up appointment with the plastic surgery nurses in NHS Fife or your GP practice, depending on your surgeon’s instructions.
NHS Fife cannot give you an appointment or provide advice until we have received information about your operation and the instructions for your continued care. Once we have received your referral from the discharging hospital, we will either telephone you (please be aware that calls from the hospital appear as 0800 numbers) or send you an appointment letter through the post. If you have not received an appointment after 3 working days after discharge – please contact your discharging ward/hospital.
If you experience any problems before receiving your NHS Fife appointment, such as bleeding, increased heat, pain or flu-like symptoms, please contact the ward who discharged you or NHS 24 on 111. They will advise you of the steps you need to take to ensure your concerns are addressed.
After your first visit or appointment post-surgery, you will be provided with more information and given NHS Fife contact details should you have any questions or concerns thereafter, which include your own Doctor, the Plastic Surgery nursing team and NHS 24 out of hours.
Please note: The Plastic Surgery nursing service at NHS Fife operates Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. There are no doctors on site 24 hours a day, so it is not an emergency service.
