When can I take Emergency Contraception?
Oral emergency contraception should be taken as soon as possible but can still work up to 5 days (120 hours) after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure.
This can be accessed from your local Pharmacy free of charge.
If you are more than 5 days since unprotected sex you may still be eligible for a copper coil. Some women choose a copper coil as emergency contraception even if unprotected sex was within the last 5 days.
The copper coil can also be continued as ongoing contraception. If you are considering a copper coil phone Sexual Health Fife on 01592 64 79 79 at the times listed below:
- Monday to Friday 8:30am – 11am and 1.00pm - 4.00pm
- Monday, Tuesday and Thursday also open from 5.00pm – 7.00pm
