Getting the Coil
Direct Appointments
We are now able to offer an appointment for coil fitting without the need to speak to a doctor or nurse first.
Before booking this appointment, please read the following information carefully to make sure this type of appointment is suitable for you:

Coil checklist (PDF)
Advice after getting the coil (PDF)
What's next?
If you answer ‘no’ to any of the ‘Coil checklist’ points then a direct booking is not suitable for you.
Instead, please phone us on 01592 64 79 79 and ask for a telephone consultation. This helps us make sure that when you do attend the clinic we are able to fit your coil for you.
I already have a coil
If you already have a coil but you are unable to feel the threads, or you have been told (e.g. at your smear appointment) that the threads are not there/cannot be seen, then a direct booking is not suitable for you.
Instead, please phone us and ask for a telephone consultation so we can ensure that you are booked in with someone who is able to remove coils with non-visible/non-palpable threads.
Before your appointment:
- Ensure you have read the 3 guides above.
- Please watch the ‘introduction to coils’ video below (you may also wish to watch the other videos and read the information leaflets).
- If you are having a coil removed and replaced, please do not have any sex without a condom for 7 days before your appointment.
- If you are having a coil fitted and are not currently on contraception, please ensure that when you attend your appointment you have not had any unprotected sex (including the withdrawal method) since your last period.
- If you are having a coil fitted and are currently using a different type of contraception, please continue to use this until your coil is fitted.
