Fife’s beaches have long been recognised as one of the Kingdom’s primary natural assets. They are a place to relax and play, learn about our natural environment and are home to many species of wildlife.

The beaches are great recreational areas for local people and visitors alike, with over a quarter of a million visits per year. They make an important contribution to local community economies of nearly £2.5m per year.

Three of Fife's beaches have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag (takes you to an external website) award in 2013. These are:

  • Burntisland
  • Aberdour
  • Elie Ruby Bay (Woodhaven)

The rural seaside awards were granted to:

  • Aberdour Black Sands,
  • Billowness, Anstruther,
  • Crail Roome Bay
  • Kinghorn Harbour
  • Kingsbarns
  • Kirkcaldy Seafield

The Resort Seaside Awards were given to:

  • Aberdour Silver Sands
  • Burntisland
  • Elie Harbour Beach
  • Elie Ruby Bay
  • Kinghorn (Pettycur)
  • Leven
  • St Andrews East Sands
  • St Andrews West Sands
