What we do
The team advise about nutrition in health and disease for babies, children and young people, from birth to 16 years. They help children and young people achieve their full growth potential and lead an active life. They offer practical, evidence based advice on infant feeding, weaning, healthy eating and growth.
The team provides dietetic advice to a wide range of specialist services. This includes diabetes, Coeliac Disease, food allergy, Cystic Fibrosis, tube feeding and child healthy weight. They work closely with other health care professionals such as Health Visitors, GP’s, Specialist Nurses, Speech & Language Therapists, and Consultants.
Referrals to the Infant, Children and Young People’s team are made by a Consultant, GP, or other Health Care Professional, You can also self refer.
What to expect
Following referral, we will have an initial conversation with you. We will ask you questions about your eating and drinking habits and if there has been any recent changes in your weight to help assess your nutritional status. We will then work with you to explore what matters to you most. A plan will be formed that will support you to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices, to help treat or prevent disease. We aim to provide accessible information when needed. We tailor our advice to meet the needs of the individual. The type of appointment may vary according to your needs and may be any of the following:
- Telephone call
- Video call (Near Me)
- Clinic appointment
- Home visit/Care Home
All requests for assistance will be triaged and may lead to signposting to other services.
If you are concerned about your child’s weight or activity levels, you can self refer to Fife Loves Life by email: fife.childhealthyweight@nhs.scot or by telephone: 01592 645238 or see the Child Healthy Weight pages.
